Can you have an STI without symptoms?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Many STIs cause no noticeable symptoms. Chlamydia, for example, is often asymptomatic: at least 70% of genital infections in women and around 50% in men may show no symptoms at diagnosis. Syphilis can also go unnoticed for years. That's why testing is useful even when you feel well.

How soon after exposure should I test?

It depends on the infection. A syphilis test is most accurate at least 3 to 6 weeks after a potential exposure. For an HIV self-test, it typically takes between 23 and 90 days for antibodies to reach detectable levels. Testing too early may give a false negative.

Should I choose a rapid test or a lab test?

Accepted Answer

Choose a rapid test if you want a quick at-home indication, with results in around 10 to 15 minutes. Choose a laboratory-based test if you want the most reliable option.

Does a combined STI test include syphilis and HIV?

Accepted Answer

Not always. Our 8-in-1 STI Test uses a urine sample and checks for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, Trichomonas, Mycoplasma genitalium, Mycoplasma hominis, Candida, Ureaplasma and Gardnerella. Syphilis and HIV need a finger-prick blood sample, so test for them separately or choose a panel that includes them.

What should I do if my result is positive?

Get a confirmatory laboratory test from a healthcare professional or sexual health clinic as soon as possible. Home tests are screening tools, and all positive results should be verified by a doctor.

Can two people use one kit?

No. Each kit is single use. If two of you are testing, a twin pack gives you two complete kits with a multibuy saving compared with buying them separately.
